About this journey

This scenic route crosses the heart of West and East Flanders, linking Belgium's westernmost railway station on the North Sea coast with one of the country's busiest railway hubs.

The journey begins in De Panne, Belgium's westernmost railway station and the gateway to the country's famous seaside resorts. From here, the train follows Belgian Railway Line 73, a historic route opened during the 19th century that connects the coast with the inland cities of Flanders. Passing through Veurne, Diksmuide, Kortemark, Lichtervelde, Tielt and Deinze, the railway traverses peaceful countryside, fertile farmland and picturesque Flemish towns before reaching Ghent.

At Deinze, the line joins the busy railway approaches to Ghent, before arriving at Gent-Sint-Pieters, the largest railway station in Flanders and one of Belgium's most important transport hubs. Opened in 1912 and extensively modernised in recent years, the station serves as a major interchange for trains travelling throughout Belgium and across Europe.
