About this journey

Sapri station, which first opened on 30 July 1894 on the Salerno–Reggio Calabria railway, marks the southern starting point of this journey north along the Ferrovia Tirrenica Meridionale toward Naples. The station gained an unlikely footnote in popular culture when scenes from the James Bond film No Time to Die were filmed there and aboard a Frecciarossa 1000.

The route follows the Tirrenica Meridionale coastline before joining the Ferrovia Napoli–Salerno for the final approach into the city. Napoli Centrale, the destination, has served as the main rail hub for this part of Italy since a first station designed by architect Enrico Alvino was built in 1866 and opened on 7 May 1867. The current building was designed in 1954 by Pier Luigi Nervi and a team of architects, with the project completed in 1960, and the station underwent a further restyling finished in August 2010. With 23 tracks and connections to national Trenitalia services, EAV regional trains, and two metro lines below ground, Napoli Centrale draws an annual ridership of 50 million passengers. The journey moves from a quiet coastal station with an outsized cinematic history to one of the most intensively used termini in southern Italy.
