The Travys line departs on 1,000 mm gauge, calling first at Yverdon William Barbey on the western edge of the city before heading toward the Jura. Yverdon-les-Bains itself lies in a basin shaped by Lake Neuchâtel, the plains of the Orbe, and the hills of the Broye — a low, open landscape that gives way as the line climbs toward the Jura mountains and its terminus at Ste-Croix.
