About this journey

The journey departs from Zagreb Glavni kolodvor, a Neoclassical station building 186.5 metres long, designed by Hungarian MÁV architect Ferenc Pfaff and opened on 18 August 1892. Authorised by the Croatian-Hungarian Parliament in 1890, it has served as the city's principal passenger terminal ever since, and it remains a protected cultural monument of Croatia.

From Zagreb the camera follows the M201 line — 79.692 kilometres connecting Dugo Selo, east of Zagreb, with the Hungarian rail network, and forming part of Pan-European Corridor V, branch b between Rijeka and Budapest. The line is fully electrified and mostly single-tracked, carrying freight, international, and regional services, including the Zagreb–Budapest service through Koprivnica. At the time of filming in July 2022, the line was mid-way through two overlapping reconstruction projects: the Dugo Selo–Križevci section of 36.4 km and the Križevci–Koprivnica–Hungarian border section of 42.6 km were each being doubled and upgraded to a target maximum speed of 160 km/h. The camera therefore captures the corridor in a period of transition.

The line reaches Koprivnica, a town whose 19th-century growth was shaped decisively by the arrival of the railway. The station here sits on the same international axis that once drove the town's industrial development, and the ongoing modernisation work along the corridor continues to reflect that long-standing strategic role.
