Annecy station, which opened in 1866 on the Aix-les-Bains–Annemasse railway, sits at the starting point of this TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes working. The same station once connected to the Annecy–Albertville line, portions of which have since been converted into a cycle path running along the lake shore.

The route heads south via Aix-les-Bains and Ambérieu-en-Bugey before reaching Lyon. That intermediate arc through Savoy and the Ain carries the train from the alpine fringe down toward the Rhône corridor, though the sources do not detail the intervening landscape in full.

Lyon Part-Dieu station has a layered history: it first opened in 1859 as a freight facility and was rebuilt in 1978 as the centrepiece of an entirely new urban district, constructed alongside a shopping centre, a government office complex, and the tallest skyscraper in the region, known as Le Crayon. It sits on the historical Paris–Marseille railway, placing it at the intersection of France's principal north–south axis. By 2001 the station was handling 80,000 passengers across 500 trains a day, well beyond the 35,000 daily passengers projected at its 1983 opening. A major reconstruction begun in spring 2018, with an underground interchange plaza completed by April 2025, means the station the cab car arrives into is still mid-transformation.
