About this journey

The journey departs from Bratislava, Slovakia's capital and its principal rail hub, joining the country's main west–east artery — line 120 — which carries trains northeast along the Váh valley toward Žilina and beyond. This heavily used corridor forms the first leg of the route, running through open lowland before reaching Leopoldov, where the train leaves the main line and crosses onto ŽSR line 141.

Line 141 was constructed in stages, with the final section completed in 1912, and its strategic purpose is clear from the map: at 83 km it links Slovakia's two principal river-valley rail corridors, connecting the Váh valley line in the west to the Hron valley corridor in the east. Beyond Leopoldov the character of the journey changes markedly, the pace of the landscape quietening as the line moves through smaller settlements and more rural terrain, passing through Zlaté Moravce and the modest halts of the later section, including Volkovce — a stop added in 1966 — and the former passing loop at Slanský dvor.

The line ends at Kozárovce, the quiet southern terminus of line 141, reached through a sequence of increasingly sparse infrastructure points. The contrast between the two halves of the journey is pronounced: the busy electrified corridor out of Bratislava gives way to a secondary line threading through the Slovak interior, tracing a cross-country connection that still carries passengers between two of the country's great rail valleys.
