About this journey

Enrique Berduc station sits on the FC Urquiza line, the standard-gauge railway that threads through the province of Entre Ríos toward Paraná. That 1,435 mm gauge sets the network apart from the 1,676 mm broad gauge used by most other interurban railways in Argentina — a distinction rooted in the line's British-company origins.

The railway has a long history in this province. The first segment of what became the Urquiza network opened in 1866 as a 10 km line between Gualeguay and Puerto Ruiz, and by 1887 a line from Paraná to Concepción del Uruguay was complete. In 1906 the network was extended further, joining the provinces of Corrientes and Misiones to Buenos Aires by rail for the first time. Nationalisation followed in 1948, when all standard-gauge lines were consolidated under the Ferrocarril General Urquiza. The journey ends at Paraná station, the provincial capital's rail hub, where the FC Urquiza supports a commuter service running up to six times a day on weekdays, with 8 intermediate stations toward Colonia Avellaneda.
