About this journey

Koprivnica station sits near the northern end of the M201 railway, a 79.692-kilometre line that forms part of Pan-European Corridor V, branch b, connecting Rijeka to Budapest. The line is fully electrified and mostly single-tracked, carrying a mix of freight, international, and regional passenger services — among them the AGRAM service linking Zagreb and Budapest via Koprivnica.

At the time of filming in May 2024, the M201 was in the final stages of its most extensive modernisation in the line's history. Two overlapping reconstruction projects were reshaping the entire route: one covering the 42.6 km Križevci–Koprivnica–Hungarian border section, and another covering the 36.4 km Dugo Selo–Križevci section, both converting the existing single track to double track. The works include the construction of new bridges, viaducts, and the elimination of level crossings. Once complete, the maximum operating speed along the route will reach up to 160 km/h. At Dugo Selo, the M201 meets the M102 line, which carries the journey onward into Zagreb.

The route ends at Zagreb Glavni kolodvor, the largest station in Croatia. Designed by Hungarian architect Ferenc Pfaff and financed by the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), it opened on 18 August 1892. Its Neoclassical reception building stretches 186.5 metres in length and is a protected cultural monument of Croatia.
