About this journey

Join us for a relaxing cab-view journey from Vinkovci to Vukovar and back to Vinkovci, travelling through the heart of eastern Croatia on one of the country's most recently modernized railway lines. Filmed entirely from the driver's cab with natural sound only, this video offers a unique perspective on railway operations in the historic region of Slavonia.

The journey begins in Vinkovci, Croatia's most important railway junction and one of the largest rail hubs in Southeast Europe. From there, the train follows the Vinkovci–Vukovar railway, a single-track line connecting the national railway network with the Danube port city of Vukovar. The route passes through the flat landscapes of Slavonia, crossing fertile agricultural plains and serving communities such as Nuštar and Bršadin before reaching Vukovar.

Originally built in the late 19th century, the line has recently undergone a major modernization and electrification project. The 18.7-kilometre route was completely renewed, electrified, and upgraded with modern signalling systems, reconstructed stations and improved level crossings. Following the completion of the project, trains can operate at speeds of up to 120 km/h on much of the line.

At the eastern end of the route lies Vukovar, Croatia's largest river port on the Danube and a city with a rich and resilient history. The railway plays an important role in connecting the port and the surrounding region to Croatia's main railway corridors while also providing essential passenger services for local communities.
