About this journey

Celje station, built in 1846, is one of the earliest railway stations in the region and sits at the point where the main Zidani Most–Šentilj line meets the branch running southwest toward Grobelno. From Grobelno the route continues onto the line toward Rogatec, tracing a corridor that connects Slovenia to Croatia across the international border at Rogatec itself.

Rogatec lies in terrain that traditionally belonged to the historical region of Styria, giving the landscape along the final stretch a distinct Central European character. The town's name derives from a Slavic word for a tall rocky prominence, a reflection of the hilly country the line passes through as it approaches the terminus. Rogatec station marks the Slovenian end of the cross-border line that continues onward to Zabok in Croatia, so what reads on the map as a quiet rural branch carries genuine international significance.
