About this journey

The journey begins at Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, a public transport hub shared by mainline rail, urban bus and tram services, and the metre-gauge Stubaitalbahn. In 2019, the station recorded 38,500 passengers daily, ranking it among Austria's busiest. From the forecourt hub, the IVB Bombardier Flexity departs onto the Stubaitalbahn, the narrow-gauge line that connects Innsbruck with the Stubai Valley to the south.

Innsbruck itself sits between the Karwendel Alps to the north, where the Hafelekarspitze reaches 2,334 metres, and peaks to the south including Serles at 2,718 metres — the same alpine setting that drew the Winter Olympics to the city in 1964 and again in 1976. As the line climbs into the Stubaital, those mountain profiles frame the cab windows throughout the ascent.

The line terminates at Fulpmes, at an altitude of 936 metres in the Stubaital. The town has historically been the centre of iron production in the valley, and it sits at the base of the Schlick 2000 ski area. The journey thus moves from one of Austria's major rail interchanges, through a deepening alpine corridor, to a small valley settlement shaped by metalworking tradition and surrounded by high mountain terrain.
