About this journey

Koper station, built in 1979 as a joint rail and bus facility, sits at the southern end of the Divača–Koper Railway, a 50-kilometre line threading through the Slovenian karst from the Adriatic coast up toward the interior plateau. The station was originally co-owned by Železniško gospodarstvo Ljubljana and the bus operator Slavnik Koper; following Slavnik's bankruptcy the building passed to state ownership and is today managed by the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency.

The line carries a heavy volume of freight destined for the port of Koper alongside its passenger services, making it one of the more operationally demanding single corridors in the country. A new, shorter alignment — reducing the route from 44 km to 27 km through several tunnels — was under construction at the time of filming, with an anticipated opening in 2026. The journey ends at Divača station, which opened in 1857 on the historic Ljubljana–Trieste main line and stands close to the Italian border, contrasting sharply with the young, purpose-built coastal terminus where the cab ride begins.
