About this journey

Zidani Most station sits near the confluence of the Sava and Savinja Rivers, a junction where services from eastern Slovenia converge before continuing toward Ljubljana. From here the cab ride follows the Dobova–Ljubljana Railway, a 114.7-kilometre double-tracked line that forms part of Pan-European Corridor X, linking Salzburg through Ljubljana and Zagreb toward Skopje and Thessaloniki.

The line carries a notable history: from 1919 to 1977 the Orient Express used this same route, threading through the Sava Valley that still shapes much of the scenery along the way. The railway is electrified at 3 kV DC throughout this stretch, a system maintained by Slovenske železnice Infrastruktura d.o.o.

The journey ends at Dobova station, an international border crossing where the line meets the Croatian network. At that boundary the electrification changes to 25 kV AC as the route continues onward via the Croatian M101 line toward Zagreb. The ride from Zidani Most to Dobova moves from a quiet inland junction, through the Sava Valley corridor, to a frontier station that has marked the edge of this rail artery for over a century.
