Dobova station sits at Slovenia's border with Croatia, where the Dobova–Ljubljana Railway begins its 114.7-kilometre course northwest through the Sava Valley toward the Slovenian capital. The station itself functions as an international railway border crossing, and the electrification system changes here: trains arriving from Croatia operate under 25 kV AC, while the Slovenian line runs on 3 kV DC from this point onward to Ljubljana. The railway forms an integral part of Pan-European Corridor X, the corridor running from Salzburg through Ljubljana and Zagreb toward Skopje and Thessaloniki, and it carries a deeper historical layer as well — the Orient Express followed this same route from 1919 to 1977.

The double-tracked line follows the Sava Valley for much of its length before reaching Zidani Most, the junction station that marks the end of this recording. Positioned near the confluence of the Sava and Savinja Rivers, Zidani Most is a critical node in the Slovenian network, where most non-direct eastbound services connect to continue toward Ljubljana.
