About this journey

The journey begins at Koprivnica station, close to the Hungarian border, and follows the M201 railway southward toward Zagreb. This corridor forms part of Pan-European Corridor V, branch b, linking Rijeka with Budapest, and the section filmed here has been fundamentally rebuilt: a 2020–2024 reconstruction doubled the track over 42.6 km between Križevci and the Hungarian border, raised the permitted speed to up to 160 km/h, and added 7 new bridges, 1 gallery, and 3 viaducts, one of which incorporates a wildlife crossing. New 55-cm high platforms were installed at stations throughout the project.

The M201 is fully electrified and carries a mix of freight, international, and regional passenger services — including the AGRAM service connecting Zagreb and Budapest via this same route. An earlier reconstruction phase between Dugo Selo and Križevci, completed across 2016–2024, added a second track over 36.4 km and eliminated 17 level crossings, replacing them with 12 grade-separated road crossings. The line reaches Dugo Selo junction, where it meets the M102 toward Zagreb, and the journey concludes at Zagreb Glavni kolodvor. That terminal station, a 186.5-metre Neoclassical building financed by the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) and opened on 18 August 1892, has served as Zagreb's principal passenger station ever since — a continuity that spans the entire arc from Habsburg-era construction to a twenty-first-century upgraded corridor.
